What is the point of face value in gold/silver coins?

im looking to buy gold and silver and i just dont get what is the point in the face value. does it mean if the gold drops under $50 (thats the face value of the american eagle Gold Coin) then the coin will be worth $50 or +$50 or none of the above?

All coins produced by the US Mint per direction of Congress must have some denomination on the coin whether they are intended for general circulation, commemorations, collectors, or as bullion. The denominations on other than general circulation coins are more of a formality and will not be set near the intrinsic value of its metal content. By setting the face value much lower than the precious metal value, the confusion of which is to be used for a sale/purchase value is avoided.

My family is chinese, and i asked my mom what she wants for christmas She knows what she wants, but we don’t know where to get it. We are looking for a bracelet. A bracelet made out of strung chinese coins. The coins should be 24ct gold, preferably with zodiac designs on it, but the design isn’t too consequential.

Does anyone know where we can find it? She is my mom, so price is not a consideration.

I think personally that investing in these metals could be a smart decision over paper money. I recommend also checking at your local antique store or coin shop for rare coins that have silver in them. I know the silver mix before1964 is about 90/10 and after 1964 it is about 70/30 of a mix. A one ounce Gold Coin is worth about $1100.00+ and rising so that could be a great investment down the road if gold continues to soar.
